The Sentiero della Bonifica delCanale Maestro della Chianathat unitesArezzowithChiusi,it is a route of about 60 kilometers equipped and protected for those traveling slowly, by bike or on foot.

The ancient road used for the maintenance of the canal and the locks is in fact a natural track without differences in height and particularlysuitable for family sports tourism, ideal to be integrated with the rail transport that serves this area.

This area was affected, from the mid-14th century, by a vast reclamation work which, initiated by theMedici family, continued under the Habsburg-Lorraine using the work of distinguished scientists and skilled engineers such asLeonardo da Vinci, Galileo GalileieVittorio Fossombroni, technical aretino to which the route is dedicated. Today that system of locks of the Grand Ducal era, which is intertwined with the charm of nature, history and typical productions of this slice of Tuscany, has become an ideal itinerary for cyclists, also thanks to the proximity of two railway lines that facilitate the return to the starting point.

The cycle path of the Canale Maestro della Chiana is also an opportunity to come into direct contact withplace and people who tell the story of the territorywith important productions such as wine, oil and fruit. Following the path you discovercellars, squares, oil mills, artisanswhich are often not part of traditional tourism routes. But alsotestimonies of the Etruscan people, such as the Labyrinth of Porsenna in Chiusi, millennial walls and necropolis such as those of Cortona and Castiglion Fiorentino. It is a kind of preferential route to the heart of a valley frequented but unknown by those who cross it by car or train, towardsa Tuscany to be discovered and experienced.
